Identified

Shadowdancer are two brothers, Al & Paul Farrier from Manchester. They have released 4 brilliant electronica tracks on one of the biggest electro wizards’ label i.e. Boysnoize Records and gained a fair respect and support by the likes of Mr. Oizo, Erol Alkan, Feadz and 2ManyDJs. Shadow Dancer wil be starting an Australian Tour on 29th of August.

Interesting Man!

Siriusmo is from Berlin, and is signed to Boysnoize records. Strangely enough he Siriusmo has said he will not DJ or perform live, due to conflicting interests. At the same time he is a prolific graffiti artist. Just these facts portray him a inique individual. Siriusmo has many talents, he is partially involved somehow with sugarbytes, a company which makes vsts. Siriusmo is partly credited for the Wow filter vst. Their products (especially the wow filter and the unique synthesizer) is what you need if you want to make some siriusmo style tracks with that vowel sound. I would love this guy to work with A trak.

Finally its not everyones cup of tea. But for those looking for some sample pieces there is a couple in here that can be used. It was in the crookers top ten this month. Who the hell is dorian concept you ask? He is an Austria, Bruno's long lost cousin, not really. He is a keyboard wizard and has been dubbed as being the new Flying Lotus. He has technical and a wide creative scope.

Mix Monday 17

Djedjotronic is yet another french cat to emerge onto the electro scene. Since signed to Boys Noise Records the Parisian is getting around and next month is coming to the land down under for his first OZ Tour. This weeks mix is one that Djedjotronic did this month titled the Mixolater Mixtape. The reason it stood out is the range of songs his decided to include ranging from old stuff (like early 90's old!) to stuff so fresh it's not even ripe yet. For example the opening track is a golden oldy, "It's time for the percolator!" which then drops quickly into the brand new Afrojack, Polkadots. He continues to jump back and forth along the electro timeline but does it smoothly. This clearly a dancefloor mix and has some pretty big tracks in there. So now... It's time for the percolator!

Mixolater Mixtape - Djedjotronic

Whats Hot!

Since summer is well underway in the northern hemisphere, music production goes up 10fold. Everyone wants to have their music ready for the summer as summer in Europe is party time. So I have been noticing a few tracks getting about and thought I would give you a preview.

First one is a relatively new one by Larry Tee that was released at the start of May, remixed by afrojack. Its got the vocal and a de-constructed feel about it. Being played by LBL and the likes.

Download:Larry Tee ft Roxy Cottontail-Make Nasty (Afrojack Remix)PREVIEW.mp3

This next one is a simple edit done be the Nadastrom boys. Getting some good play with this party tune.

Alex Gopher has just released Hang guns. Above is the man himself on the right with another sick cunt. Below is Gopher s studio. It looks like its full of old school hardware.

So here's the remix Beni has put together recently. You may have heard it out and about. Created by Alex Gopher and remixed by Beni, now thats a formula.

Michael Jackson

Trying to celebrate Michael Jackson's catalogue of music through an eclectic assortment of remixes I pulled up on my iTunes really demonstrates the impact of his music. The complexity, forward-thinking, production and the innate charisma he is able to impart into his music simply cannot be rivaled, certainly not by these remixes. Despite my lack of salesmanship, here is an ad hoc collection of remixes that are, at least, a bit of fun. What a talented and creepy, creepy man.

Thriller (Louis La Roche Remix) - Michael Jackson

I Can't Help It (Todd Terje Rekutt) - Michael Jackson
-Give it a couple listens. Far and away best of the bunch.

Bad (Mowgli Remix) - Michael Jackson

P.Y.T. (Marquis Remix) - Michael Jackson

Don't Stop (T&T Version) - Michael Jackson

Thriller (Villains' Remix) - Michael Jackson

Mix Monday 16

This weeks mix is another live set, this time however it's from some local Sydney talent. Marky Mark is part of a cult taking over. This entourage call themselves the 'Troublemakers'. They're well worth taking a look at. This bunch of DJs and producers have teamed up to make music, play music and throw pretty mad parties. I'd suggest checking them out as this is where the Sydney scene is headed, i.e. away from commercial shite (sorry 18yr old gurners). This is a set he did on the weekend which popped into my inbox. It's a very well played 55 minute tribal style tech set with a diverse and unconventional tracklist. Go cause some trouble.

2. Sa Punta (Duckbeats Dub) - Jet Project
3. Mas Que Nada (Funkin Matt Rmx) - Gregor Salto

Dirty Darren

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

It's been a while since I said something gospel on StayingSick, and it will be a longer while til then. However, this week I'll be dedicating my post to the Hamburger, İsmail "Isi" Tüfekç (aka Derdiedas). Derdiedas is one half of the German electronic duo, Digitalism. The man who enjoys sitting up in trees eating mango yoghurt (iDJ 2008) has also enriched our lives with some very pleasant remixes of artists such as Phoenix, Beni and even his own stuff, Digitalism. Here are a few that you may want to check out.

Boys Noize (sic)

Let's kick off a fine post with a couple of tracks from Boys Noize. First up is an original off their most recent EP, and it's one fine tune: named Jeffer, it's very nicely developed, and look out for the cool unexpected chord change at 1:00. Sure, the whole chopped up sample thing is getting very worked out at the moment, but Jeffer does it abso-bloody-exactly right. Also from Mr. Noize (can I call him Boys?) is an edit of a Siriusmo track from a few months back. It ticks all the boxes: DJ friendly, big snare, filter sweeps leading up to a nice drop. Très cool. (P.S. That è took me 40 minutes to figure out).

Jeffer - Boys Noize

Mein Menu Fahrrad (Boys Noize Edit) - Siriusmo

And sure enough, because I'm not clever enough to construct a logical, cohesive blog post, here are a few unrelated tracks. Firstly, everyone's favourite polite Japanese musician with a name that extends stereotypes, Shinichi Osawa, gives the Bag Raiders a go. Then, on a completely different note, Kurtis Blow provides us with an old classic. Enjoy.

Autotune

Autotune. Love it or hate it?

The latest craze in hip hop music, Autotune. This musical tool is playing a bigger in bigger role in the commercial music, especially hip and R&B that we hear. One of the biggest pioneers for this 'robot thingy' sound is the extraordinarily talented T-Pain. This amazing musical tool can make even the tone-deaf everyday dude sound exactly like all the other crap sell-out artists of the moment. In fact, literally anyone who possesses an iPhone can be the next T-Pain with his new Autotune Application. All you need now is some stupid top-hats, Oakley sunnies and dreads. Have a look.

One of the heavyweights in Hip Hop for a decade now, Jay-Z, has stayed true to a lot of his morals. Something which seems to have bypassed the integrity of a large proportion in the same game. Jay-Z rapped on his last studio album Never been on myspace... Don't think Lil Wayne can say that. "Death Of Autotune (D.O.A.)" makes references to not only the complete lack of talent which autotune represents but also how so much of the hip hop out there isn't even hip hop at all.

Death Of Autotune (D.O.A.) - Jay-Z

At the other end of the spectrum is Calvin Harris' new remix of a Mr Hudson track featuring the recent convertee to the Autotune movement Kanye West, good on ya son. Sold out, sell out.

Streetlife!

ImageHost.org

This is abit of a random post, but this streetlife djs remix jumped in my inbox and it has samples of Justice s phantom through it. I did not know of it until a couple of days ago. Anyway it got me thinking and I looked more at streetlife djs, they have a unique style and sound, a Streetlife DJ set can take you from Altern8 into Depeche Mode, Gangstarr into Daft Punk, Adonis into The Who, all of which will have the special re-edit treatment to give it that unique Streetlife touch. The re-edits are kept down to an intense blast of only a few minutes, which creates a quickfire effect to their DJ sets. They add samples, accapellas and sound fx to the mix. Compliment that with the most cutting edge electronic dance and alternative, along with some of the slickest mixing and programming you're likely to hear and the result is something really quite exciting and definitely very refreshing.

This remix would of been sick like a year ago.

Baggies

The Bag Raiders played last Friday at Moulin Rouge in Sydney and were partying pretty hard. When they rocked up (15 minutes late), they were straight up in the DJ booth grinding the supporting DJ and dancing on tables. These pricks were loose and it was mad. With their energy rubbing off on the crowd the boys played a killer set, nicely putting some hard elecrto and fidget with some more disco type tunes. Here's what it looked like...

So everyone's coped the most recent EP from the Bag Radiers with 'Turbo Love' and 'Shooting Star'. Now the remixes, re-edits, bootlegs etc have started to roll out. I've decided to provide you with a few or the rarer and in my opinion better pieces of work to pop up.
First, Turbo Love. The orginal of this kills it. Big party tune and quite versatile aswell fitting into a range of mixes and sets. The first remix is a re-edit done by the Baggies themselves and is just a more DJ friendly version with an extended intro. The second is actually a cover. A random one too. It's a jazz song, even with a bit of jazz flute! It's called the Business Class Lounge Version which I think somes it up well, groovy. The third and final remix is largely a dancefloor tune, with a slight nu-disco feel but still maintains it's hardness with heavy bass and kicks.

Turbo Love (Raiders Slamball Revision) - Bag Radiers

Turbo Love (Business Class Lounge Cover Version) - Flight Facilities feat. Louie Austen

Turbo Love (Light Year Remix) - Bag Radiers

Next up we have a couple versions of the dreamy anthem 'Shooting Star'. The first is an edit which adds a few drum machines and synths to increase the intensity, even if it's only slightly, on the original. The second is bootleg. I found labelled as a 'Call Me Up' (Bag Raiders Remix). However, it's actually a bootleg of Call Me Up and Shooting Star. Not quite as smooth as the original but something a little different and definately worth a listen.

Shooting Star (Flashmen Edit) - Bag Radiers

Shooting Star (Call Me Up Bootleg) - Bag Radiers

You have to check out this clip.
This guy thinks he's the shit. That's cos he is. Bit of Snoop Dogg (word has it, it's his second cousin)

Last but not least. From the vault. A sneaky bootleg of Fun Punch with SebastiAn's 'Greel'.

But now all of you can re-live Laidback Luke @ We Love Sounds, as he has picked the Sydney Set to be the best and enter it as his fortnightly FG radio show set. And for those who did not go, I would suggest checking it out as the crowd can be heard and in some parts they go pretty mad, also his edit of 'I'm in Sydney Bitch'

Louis Vuitton what?

A collab with LV was a natural move for the self professed 'Louis Vuitton Don' and I must say there is a fair improvement from his last collab with Nike. Although from using all the power of deduction that I can muster I would have to say that Mr. West had less of a hand in this collaboration than the over hyped mess that was the ' Air Yeezy'.  It would appear that Louis Vuitton has harnessed the selling power of Kanye whilst keeping some design integrity.

There is a movement towards luxury sneakers by the 'new-school' sneaker head. Exclusivity is the name of the sneaker game although it seems the 'where did you get those' factor could be loosing out to 'I know where you got those but I still can't have them'.

If you walk down the street with a pair of these you will turn heads including mine. So you now have to ask yourself  if they are worth US$800+...

I know your looking at diplo and thinking 2008 remix of radiohead. Nope, just dropping in a James Zabiela remix of Radioheads-Reckoner. Its driving bass lines and tech sounding thuds create an emotive piece of electronica. He also played this at We Love Sounds the other week.

Mix Monday 14

The Bang Gang boys are back. Well at least a couple of them. Gus Da Hoodrat and Jamie Doom have put heads together and come up with a new mix. It's Techno!
One Million Volts of Techno is an 82 minute mix which comprises of six parts. With a very interesting and not necessarily usual Bang Gang style track list. This un-commercial mix is relatively different to what we're used to from these dudes with less party tunes and more straight up techno. I think it’s been done very well. You can tell that time and effort has gone into this. Listen to it a few times, it grows on you.

The iPhone

ImageHost.org

Phone, iPod, Internet and more. The iPhone 3G is truley amazing. With fast 3G wireless technology, GPS mapping, support for enterprise features like Microsoft Exchange and the new App Store, iPhone 3G puts even more features at your fingertips. And like the original iPhone, it combines three products in one — a revolutionary phone, a widescreen iPod and a breakthrough Internet device with rich HTML email and a desktop-class web browser.

First thing I think of when someone shows me an iphone is 'fuckin hell get over it' stop following everyone else.

However it has been around for a while now, and recently I actually sat down and had a play. The one thing that turned my perception was the applications that you can get. Anything from road cameras in the city, spirit meters if your bricklaying, a simple shake of the phone will trigger the 'spoon' application to find a resturant.

I am slowly bringing myself towards it. Currently I have a blackberry bold that syncs with my work PC. At home I have an imac, which can sync with my blackberry. The only thing I am hating is the touch screen on the iphone, very very fiddley. Keep in mind I have only played with it for an hour. But I need that touch feeling when I type. Why dont computer s have touch screen keyboards, I know they do, but it s rare.

Couple of days ago I was reading up Computer Music and they had a piece on iPhone applications. One very cool thing was an application the iPhone and iPod Touch have With their fair share of cool audio apps (including the unfinished but amazing Jasuto) and there are more on the way including FiRe from Audio Engineering, the brains behind Wave Editor. This hard disk recording app includes accurate real-time waveform information and the ability to upload audio to SoundCloud automatically.

Jasuto is the first truly modular synthesizer for the iPhone and is basically the 2nd coming of my previous modular synth experiment known as Mode. Its a fun application where you can simply just play around with the synth or actually try and be constructive. Check out this site.

Jasuto homepage

Not to be out done, legendary trance-meister Paul van Dyk is going to release his own app which acts as a frequency analyser, level meter and a glowstick amongst other functions. Check out the evidence in this incredible video....

Anders Trentemøller

We often rave about how good the DJ's and producers are that appear on Staying Sick which is expected, were not gonna post crap we hate. Yes?
That said, this post is in homage to a truly talented creature, Anders Trentemøller. Being an extraordinary DJ (refer to Mix Monday 6) and an equally skilled producer, a mate and I discussed other day and what takes this individual to the next level of being an undeniably skilled musician (which is a status that sadly the majority of DJ/producers fail to obtain these days).

I guess the debate begins with the right questions... What makes a true musician? There are a few factors undoubtably but a good starting point is someone who makes music that is long lasting and I believe this is the greatest credit to Trentemøller's success. The music he makes/remixes is not the songs you here one year on the MOS Clubber's Anthems along with every other mix compilation but rather songs that are used in more unique mixes and you will continue to hear for years.

Secondly, the way his music is made. Trentemøller has an insane knowledge of music. Being a big fan of many genre's outside the electronic realm. It's this man's ability to break down boundaries and create music unlike any other. The fact that he doesn't try to appeal to one particular audience and follow one style enables him to make music that is what HE feels, unlike producers who are known for their style or 'sound' and then limited to it. This leaves you with an art form rich with creativity and uniqueness and is that not what true art is???

So now you want to cop some of this guys insight. Well you can. A brand new compilation has been put together that explores some of the Danish maverick's favourite songs for those special, intimate moments that exist purely between sound and listener.
Launched along with a brand new label platform, HFN, Harbour Boat Trips - 01: Copenhagen by Trentemøller is a very special, life-affirming CD that speaks to us in volumes, sharing Anders' absolute favourites from four decades of music history. You'll see the tracklist and probably not know much, I certainly didn't. This reiterates the point that this mix (being his first mix CD) is not out to please, the extent of unfamiliar names on show, a promise that the compiler will introduce us to something new. I've got my copy and I strongly suggest you go get yours.

Now I wouldn't want to leave you empty handed after all that hype so I've got a few tracks for you. These first three are the big fella's newer stuff with three remixes he's banged out in the last couple of months. All three are quite different from one another; my pick of the bunch is the 'No You Girls' remix.

All Nite (Trentemøller Remix) - Visti & Meyland

Give A Little (Trentemøller Re-Adjustment) - Andy Caldwell

No You Girls(Trentemøller Remix) - Franz Ferdinand

And to just push/prove my point even further I've decided to put up a couple of older tracks taken from Trentemøller's first studio album called 'The Last Resort'. The album, if you haven’t heard it, is quite a piece of work. Not a dancefloor album by any means, this demonstrates the musicality I keep blabbing on about. The first track is a vocal remix Trentemøller did of his own song Moan and the second is an ambient track called Miss You. I've included both the video's for these tracks too as they only add the mastery.

Mix Monday 13

This weeks' mix comes from the party machine UK Kissy Sellout. The mix is not brand spanking new. Its actually from the tail end of last year. I decided to post it though as its a well put together unconventional mix and is a good example of what some of us Aussies may be hearing on his current tour for the We Love Sounds festival which we keep going on about.

What I really like about this mix is that it plays the harder banging electro style tunes but then breaks it up well by playing disco, fidget and bmore which gives you a nice flowing mix which isn't just straight bangers. Metterhead in Shooting Stars displays what I'm talking about perfectly.

Hook N Sling

Thought I might just kick off June with a local post. Hook n Sling entered the spotlight in a big way back in 2007 with his trip to Ibiza and Aria chart hit The Bump. Currently looking forward into 2009 with his latest single "The Best Thing" (which spent 9 weeks at the top of the Australian club charts and peaked at No 26 on the national charts) about to land internationally.

Watch for his lastest work Calvin Harris - Im Not Alone (Hook N Sling mix) which he recorded in Richard Dinsdales studio while he was in London recently.

Below is a recent track that also featured on the lastest Progression series. Ministry of Sound have taken a step forward with the sophomore release by signing on Hook N Sling and fast rising Canadian star Adam K to mix the double disc.
