Calvin Harris's second studio album titled 'Ready For The Weekend' has recieved a positive and encouraging amount attention since it dropped in late August. Doing a nice job musically and otherwise following up his debut chart topper this album quite similar in style and if anything probably a bit less pop and slightly more electro. Although it still contains a large amount of radio friendly tracks. As with his last album a lot of the hype has been aided by the singles and remixes that come hand in hand. With 'I'm Not Alone' and 'Ready For The Weekend' getting reworked by every big name under the sun. I've included one of my favourite tracks of the album which is bouncy and fun.

Autotune. Love it or hate it?



The latest craze in hip hop music, Autotune. This musical tool is playing a bigger in bigger role in the commercial music, especially hip and R&B that we hear. One of the biggest pioneers for this 'robot thingy' sound is the extraordinarily talented T-Pain. This amazing musical tool can make even the tone-deaf everyday dude sound exactly like all the other crap sell-out artists of the moment. In fact, literally anyone who possesses an iPhone can be the next T-Pain with his new Autotune Application. All you need now is some stupid top-hats, Oakley sunnies and dreads. Have a look.



One of the heavyweights in Hip Hop for a decade now, Jay-Z, has stayed true to a lot of his morals. Something which seems to have bypassed the integrity of a large proportion in the same game. Jay-Z rapped on his last studio album Never been on myspace... Don't think Lil Wayne can say that. "Death Of Autotune (D.O.A.)" makes references to not only the complete lack of talent which autotune represents but also how so much of the hip hop out there isn't even hip hop at all.

At the other end of the spectrum is Calvin Harris' new remix of a Mr Hudson track featuring the recent convertee to the Autotune movement Kanye West, good on ya son. Sold out, sell out.

Hook N Sling

Thought I might just kick off June with a local post. Hook n Sling entered the spotlight in a big way back in 2007 with his trip to Ibiza and Aria chart hit The Bump. Currently looking forward into 2009 with his latest single "The Best Thing" (which spent 9 weeks at the top of the Australian club charts and peaked at No 26 on the national charts) about to land internationally.

Watch for his lastest work Calvin Harris - Im Not Alone (Hook N Sling mix) which he recorded in Richard Dinsdales studio while he was in London recently.

Below is a recent track that also featured on the lastest Progression series. Ministry of Sound have taken a step forward with the sophomore release by signing on Hook N Sling and fast rising Canadian star Adam K to mix the double disc.

Phoenix Schmoenix

Phoenix is great (which I suppose renders my title a bit arbitrary) and the first few singles off Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix are all fantastic and, sure enough, are doing the remix rounds, giving the band some serious blogosphere presence. Man the word blogosphere is gayosphere.

Lisztomania, continuing their fondness for classical composer wordplays, is a perfect framework for some solid remix work, and Alex Metric, Yuksek and Classixx have stepped up to the plate. First up is Metric’s, which is far and away the pick of the litter, in my opinion. And my opinion is gospel, so fucking listen, and fucking enjoy.

Yuksek has his little formula, and it works well on just about anything, this song included. Classixx have the same, giving a nice spacey feel, with some slick synth work. Appréciez bitches.
